Former Stanford swimming star and Olympic medalist Summer Sanders, one of the three faces of the Pac-12 Networks, will be one of the 8000 runners to carry the Olympic torch during the 70-day relay leading up to the London Games later this month.
Sanders won four medals at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, including two golds. That came just a few months after leading Stanford to the NCAA champiosnship.
Sanders will run with the torch for one mile on July 10 in an area just outside London. The games start on July 27.
Sanders said she has vivid memories of others carrying the torch at the Olympics and “I never thought that carrying the Olympic Flame would actually be in my cards, and now I’m going to be a torchbearer.”
Sanders was hired last month by the Pac-12 Networks as a reporter, analyst and studio host.
